Can you help us reduce social isolation amongst older people in the city

Age Better

Sheffield Mind is working on an innovative project across the city, to help older people who are experiencing or at risk of social isolation.

There are two types of volunteers in this project:

Peer Mentor is assigned to help an individual who is at risk of becoming more socially isolated because of changing circumstances such as retirement, long term illness or the loss of a loved one.

An Age Better Champion works short term with up to 4 participants helping those who are already isolated try new activities and access support networks in order to help them stay engaged and active.

Please Note, due to the success of the recruitment process and the fact that we are up to capacity on volunteers, we are not recruiting any new volunteers at the moment. When we need additions to the team we will be sure to announce it here so do keep checking this page for details.

We are looking to recruit a Trustee with good practical knowledge of IT. This area of operations has frequently been identified as one in which we are lacking expertise and are looking to recruit an experienced professional who can advise on network development and how best to use new software/applications to enhance and optimise the way we deliver services.

As a trustee your responsibilities would be to attend regular meetings of the Board and to participate in periodic strategic development and planning sessions to review and improve performance or address particular areas of concern.

We are always looking for ways  to improve the way in which we work and to make the most of the resources available to us.

If you are interested in finding out more about this role please call the office on 0114 258 4489 ext 107 or email further details and an application form.

Counsellors and Psychotherapists

No opportunities currently - please check back for updates.

When we do have opportunities for trainee counsellors/psychotherapists, we only accept people who are on at least their second placement. This is because the clients we work with tend to have complex issues.

Sheffield Mind has a volunteer policy. This document gives you clear guidance on what would be expected of you as a volunteer. Click here to view it.
